Two Simple Ways To Start Boosting Your Personal Power
As you may know, much of my work now focuses on coaching professionals to develop their emotional intelligence and, in doing so, boost their personal power.
In this post, I will introduce you briefly to two simple – but powerful – methods of doing this.
Recognising your achievements
The first one is a ‘reflective’ one. It involves simply thinking about your past achievements. Often we forget to sit back and take stock of how far we’ve come in the past 12 months, two years, the past decade, or even longer.
We get bogged down in the day-to-day dramas of our lives – work, kids, relationships – and often miss the chance to celebrate our achievements.
It’s just as important to do this personally as it is professionally; and it’s just as important for YOU to recognise your achievements as to receive recognition from someone else.
So, start by thinking about the successes you’ve had; go deeper into the emotions you experienced as you achieved these successes – write down what you achieved and how it made you feel.
Simply by doing this, you will feel the self-confidence rise to the surface, as this video explains:
The second way to boost personal power is to become more assertive in your responses to requests. Be confident in saying NO gracefully as well as saying YES wilfully.
Remember that by saying YES all the time, you are also saying NO to other things. You may be shutting yourself off to more important experiences.
Every time you say YES out of obligation, you’re saying NO to somebody or something else. Often what we say NO to is more important than what we’ve said YES to!
If you do say NO – for whatever reason – you’re saying YES to something else. So it should feel OK to say no sometimes – even it is sitting at home doing very little but catching a little ‘me’ time.
This video explains a little more…
Personal power comes in many forms and from many sources. The two simple methods outlined above are among the best I know for instantly giving you a good dose of confidence and power.
